Juneteenth Marches In America Draw
Huge
Crowds (Videos)June 19. 2020
People all over America took part in peaceful
marches today to celebrate Juneteenth, which marked the end of
slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, African-Americans
discovered slavery had ended. This was 2½ years after President
Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves via the Emancipation Proclamation
(January 1, 1863).
The Juneteenth marches were primarily people of
color of all ages. However, there were also white people in
attendance at the marches to show support, especially in light of
the recent police brutality murders of George Floyd, Rayshard Brooks
and Breonna Taylor.
Footage that aired on news channels show massive crowds in a number
of U.S. cities, peacefully commemorating the day.
